Microbit Christmas canvas

December 31, 2017

This week we have been making Christmas decorations, using BBC Micro:bits to add some much needed sparkle!

Materials needed

  1. BBC micro:bit and computer or mobile device to write a small amount of code on

  2. Small canvas (We got ours in a pound shop - 4 for £1.00)

  3. Paints

  4. Paintbrushes

  5. Craft knife or scalpel

  6. Pencil

  7. Ruler

We started by sketching out an idea in our notebook!

Here is my Rudolph sketch, with a square are for the microbit LED's to make up his nose.

Next we drew on the canvas where we will cut out 3 squares for the micro:bit LED's and buttons to peep out of!

Then using a craft knife I cut out the holes (get adult assistance or permission!!), so that we can pop the micro:bit buttons through the holes.

Then we copied my  sketch on to the canvas

Using acrylic paints we painted our canvas!

We then used 3D fabric paint (puffy paint) to outline and add details

We created the following code to make the LED's flash. We have a different nose programmed for A and B buttons.
